So what is Samhain?
Samhain is the ancient Celtic festival that unfolds from the twilight of October 31st into the dawn of November 1st, when the wheel of the year turns from harvest’s abundance into winter’s stillness. Known as the Celtic New Year, it is a sacred threshold — a liminal moment when the veil between the worlds grows thin and the whispers of ancestors and spirits can be felt more closely.
In times past, great bonfires lit the night, feasts honored both the living and the dead, and acts of divination sought glimpses of the unseen. Costumes and disguises were worn to confuse wandering spirits, weaving protection into celebration. From these ancient rites, many of the traditions we now know as Halloween — from trick-or-treating to the glowing Jack-o’-lantern — first flickered into life.
